Biography
Tirtza Atar (January 27, 1941 – September 8, 1977) was an Israeli lyricist, author, singer, theater actress, playwright, and translator. She was born in Tel Aviv, the daughter of the poet Nathan Alterman and theater actress Rachel Marcus.
Achievements
Atar won first place at the 1970 Israel Song Festival with her poem 'Pit'om Achshav, Pit'om Hayom'. She also translated over 30 plays from English to Hebrew and authored an award-winning children's book, 'Ya'el Takes a Walk', which received the Ze'ev Prize in 1973.
Fun facts
Despite her success, Atar left the acting world, feeling she did not belong to the theater scene. Her death, which occurred after falling from her window, has led to speculation about whether it was an accident or suicide.
