Piers Anthony Dillingham Jacob, born August 6, 1934, is an American author in the science fiction and fantasy genres, best known for his Xanth novel series. His parents, Quaker pacifists, interrupted their studies at Oxford to undertake humanitarian work in Spain. The family moved to the United States in 1940.

Anthony has published numerous books that have appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list. One of his greatest achievements is publishing a book beginning with every letter of the alphabet, from A (Anthonology) to Z (Zombie Lover). His Xanth series inspired a video game and a board game.
